At 9:00 a.m. on September 23, the School of Economics and Management held an international postgraduate supervisor work meeting in Room 6A407 on the Songshan Lake Campus, and simultaneously conducted special training for supervisors and course instructors. School leaders, postgraduate supervisors, and representatives of course instructors attended the meeting to jointly study and deploy the first international postgraduate training work.
At the meeting, Vice Dean Liu Chuan reported on the School’s first international postgraduate student recruitment. As of now, 98 international postgraduate students have registered at the School, including 75 in International Business and 23 in Digital Economy, accounting for more than half of the university’s first cohort of registered international postgraduate students. The talent training programs for the two master’s degree programs have been completed. Trial lectures for bilingual courses and special training have been arranged in parallel. Supervisor selection has been launched in an orderly manner. Policy support such as special training funds and course coefficients has been clarified. Working mechanisms such as a dedicated School working group, regular meetings, and training ledgers have been established simultaneously. Preparations for the first international postgraduate training are basically in place.
In the special training session, focusing on the characteristics of international student education, the meeting set out work requirements for supervisors and course instructors. First, raise awareness and take a broader perspective, actively learn, become familiar with the patterns of international student education as soon as possible, and enhance cross-cultural communication awareness and ability. Second, conduct scholarship rigorously and teaching in a standardized manner, prepare lessons carefully, teach meticulously, strictly implement all teaching management regulations, and ensure classroom teaching quality. Third, educate students with dedication and care for them, proactively learn about their study and life, and help international students adapt to the campus environment as soon as possible. Fourth, strictly observe the bottom line of teacher ethics and conduct, abide by the professional code of conduct for teachers, and demonstrate the quality of the School’s teaching team with a good spirit and educational competence.
The meeting assigned training tasks by category. Supervisors must fulfill their responsibility as the first person responsible for student training, complete supervisor-student mutual selection by October 1, carefully handle all aspects of academic guidance, and care about student growth. Course instructors should proactively sign up for the reserve pool of instructors available to teach and actively undertake bilingual teaching tasks. In view of the current relative shortage of faculty, the meeting issued an initiative to the whole School, encouraging teachers with overseas study experience and good spoken English to actively undertake course teaching tasks. The School will give policy preference in workload recognition and other areas, ensure incentives and support are in place, and make every effort to ensure that this semester’s courses start on schedule and run smoothly.
At the end of the meeting, master’s supervisors in the two directions of Digital Economy and International Business drew lots in turn, and the supervisor-student mutual selection was confirmed on site, marking that the School’s first international postgraduate training work had officially entered the stage of substantive operation.
